I write pretty specific stuff about building software products & businesses for the logistics industry. Its not likely something you'd love (my guess). But I'm in the process of writing a substack article that was triggered by reading your book (product management advances via paradigm shifts, I think), so I'll share that in a few days.
WOW what a generous offer! Going to ponder what I’d want you to read, as I’ve published a lot for the public, and send you something. Thanks for this!
I should been more clear. Self-published counts as published in my book, so Substack, Medium, blog posts, anything like that is fine. It just can't be private or a draft. Anything that's up for the whole internet to see is fine.
I am a past subscriber. Always challenged by how much time to commit to Substack. This will bring me back. Such a generous offer of your time and consideration. Unexpected acts are the very best. Enjoyed your interview with Sam Harris immensely.
Erik, I'm worried about the trend of paywalling good information. What's going to happen if one can only gain access to a variety of quality writing that's written by intelligent humans if one can pay for it? It's like the rich getting richer & the poor getting poorer leading into a worse outcome of the dumb getting dumber & the smart getting smarter.
To be fair, this is a promotional piece. And that in of itself doesn't necessarily add to the disparity you mentioned. But you're right that there is an exclusivity culture when it comes to paywalls (which generally only gets worse over time). To me, this article feels like dangling bait in front of a reader, rather than a mutual favor, and I'm wondering why the whole thing couldn't have been behind the paywall.
I hope this criticism isn't taken the wrong. I only intend to give a perspective on what's happening on the receiving end and to voice some of the thoughts your (Erik's) other readers may have.
It’s another benefit for paid subscribers, and one of the more interesting offers I’ve seen around. Although it kind of hints at the limits of Substack readership, consisting now of mostly (?) fellow bloggers and the Substack curious. Note the percentage of Likers who also have Substack blogs, which are linked to below their names at the top of the Likes list. If you don’t have one, you’re at the bottom of the list.
This is a great opportunity, Erik! Thank you. I sent an email on August 16th and a follow-up email, but since I didn't receive confirmation, I figured there was some sort of mistake.

This is a mindfuck. Must pay to subscribe, then send me your work and I will briefly mention it (somewhere) and no, I don’t acknowledge submissions, but you can only do it once. Perfect scam. Got me.
What part of the "in September" date given in the original post is unclear? Because it's still September. Collating, reading, and organizing 100s of submissions takes time - especially since I am trying to make it interesting to other readers who might actually subscribe to some of the submitters. The first installment goes out tomorrow. It's been done for a while but I'm waiting on art from Alexander.
I have never worked so hard to try to subscribe to anything before. All I get is messages saying I can manage subscription from the app, I give up, how the f¥{€ do I subscribe???
Also please structure your submission as cleanly as you can, e.g., an ideal email looks something like:
Title
Preferred Name
Link (URL)
Please either email from the address you are a paid subscriber on, or let me know that email in the submission itself.
Hi Eric,
Would it be a problem if the piece were sent - as released - in installments (i.e. two links rather than one)?
Thank you very much for your time.
Brock
Each entry is only one link, so you would have to choose. Presumably, the first one links to the second one? People can probably follow that way.
Thank you very much for this clarification and for the opportunity. Hope you enjoy! -Brock
Oh fiddlesticks - I sent the email before I read this comment, apologies!
NP M. E., your's is totally fine, it still contains all the same info

Sounds perfect Jonah, thanks

Published, like in an academic journal or by a known publisher? E.g., substack or medium doesn't count?

I missed your deadline! Your call for submissions is such a generous idea, Eric.
Thanks Sarah - don’t worry there will be more. Given the interest, I’ll do this every few months probably

Appreciate this, thank you, Erik.

So so cool. Thank you for this. Excited to see the list when all is said and done!
Hey Erik! Are you still looking for subscriber writing? I might have something for you.
Yup, there will be a call for subscriber writing this Thursday - wait to send in then, since there will be directions

I have a number of works under various pen names on Amazon kindle (I'm a novelist, among other things). Could I send you the link to one of them?
Yes, one link if you like, but keep in mind I cannot promise to actually read the full book (unlike the articles people have sent)
Just checking? Do you send an acknowledgement of submissions? (I emailed a submission on the 19th by the way). Thanks
Nope, not sending acknowledgements via email
